CELEBRATION-HOSTING 101

Posted 26 January 2018 by Saucy Fish Co.

You know the drill: the date’s been in your diary forever, you have an outfit so hot that it comes with a disclaimer, and the ink has dried on your fancy invitations… Ah, time to put your feet up on the couch – you’ve earned it.

You know the drill: the date’s been in your diary forever, you have an outfit so hot that it comes with a disclaimer, and the ink has dried on your fancy invitations… Ah, time to put your feet up on the couch – you’ve earned it.

But wait! It’s next week! How the heck did that happen. Well don’t you fret – Saucy’s here with the definitive lowdown on how to be the host with the most. You’re going to be so chilled – your guests might need to bring mittens...

1. Stock Up – Hungry guests are the kryptonite of every party host. But with a full pantry, you can relax. That doesn’t mean busting your guts over the stove all day, it just means bags full of pretzels, olives, antipasti – you name it. Pop in some fancy bowls and everyone will find something to nibble on while they chat away.

TOP TIP: have some gluten, vegan and veggie treats on standby but stash them away so they don’t get devoured. Phew, now that friend who you haven’t seen in ages but has developed a food intolerance can enjoy themselves too!

2. Prep your bar like a pro – The key to keeping your guests merry without breaking the bank, is some nifty buying. We recommend the formula: 50% beer, 25% wine and 25% liquor. To keep the drinks flowing without seeming stingy, prepare a signature party punch that you can greet guests with.

TOP TIP: For some real glitz, we’d all love to hire a bartender for the evening. But there could be a budding talent lurking in your midst... Some folks are just itching to unleash their inner mixologist – so why not ask round your pals?

3. Did someone say playlist? Unless you’re a serious music buff, this can strike fear into the heart of any host. Sure, you’re happy listening to your daily mix on shuffle, but will everyone else go for your Nashville hit? Doubtful. Make everyone a part of your night, with a group playlist that guests can add to before the event starts.

TOP TIP: Check the songs before your party – and especially the order. Nobody wants to hear The Chipmunk Song after Cyndi Lauper.
