HEALTH BENEFITS OF BROCCOLIPosted March 7 2019 by The Saucy Fish Co.
We don’t just talk about fish here at Saucy. We also talk about the things that go well with fish. In particular, side dishes that add to the health benefits you can gain from your marine-based meal.
This month we’re recommending broccoli as a superfood that will add even more goodness to your plate. Broccoli is bursting with vitamins K and C and more nutrients than you can shake a stick at. It’s good for tissue, bone and eye health. It might also be able to help manage diabetes and prevent cancer – the jury’s still out on that one.
All round it’s a real superstar veggie and one that goes well with fish. And did you know Thomas Jefferson may have been the first person to introduce broccoli to the US? So, it’s a patriotic veg as well.
Here’s a lovely little side dish of broccoli to go with your next fish meal.
Yummy broccoli with peas
○ 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
○ 1 tbsp sesame seeds, lightly toasted
○ 1 tsp poppy seeds
○ 3.5oz frozen peas
For the dressing:
○ 1 tbsp soy sauce
○ 1 tsp clear honey
○ ¼ tsp sesame oil
Make the dressing by mixing the soy, honey and sesame oil together. Mix the seeds, boil the broccoli and peas for 2 mins then drain. Put the broccoli and peas back in the pan, pour on half the dressing and half the seeds. Shake. Serve sprinkled with the rest of the dressing and seeds.
